Lundin, DEA and Aker BP have discovered a large oil and gas field Filicudi in the Norwegian part of the Barents Sea. This was reported by DEA, a subsidiary of LetterOne belonged to M. Fridman.
Located just 40 km (25 miles) southwest of the Statoil-operated Johan Castberg discovery, the Lundin Petroleum subsidiary said the prospect could hold between 35 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe) and 100 MMboe. Neighboring discoveries include Alta and Gohta, also operated by Lundin, on the Loppa High about 30 kilometers (19 miles) northwest of the latest oil find in PL533.
“This discovery indicates a potential extension of the Jurassic trend from the Johan Castberg area into a promising new region,” Svend Erik Pettersson, exploration manager for DEA in Norway, said in a Feb. 13 statement. Lundin Norway operates PL 533 and holds a 35% interest, while DEA holds 30% interest and Aker BP holds the remaining 35%.
DEA has a solid and promising licence portfolio with assets in all major phases, in every region of the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). At the end of 2015, as part of an acquisition DEA took over shares in more than 40 licences as well as significant production volumes from producing oil and gas fields in Norway. After the purchase, DEA has shares in 69 licences on the NCS, of which 11 are operated. The company made discoveries on PL435 (Zidane) in 2010 and 2012. The aim is to hand in a Plan for Development and Operation (PDO) for the Zidane field in 2016. This will be DEA’s first field development project as operator in Norway. DEA has ownership interests in several producing fields, such as Snorre, Skarv, Njord, Snøvhit, Knarr, Gjøa and Hyme. With the latest acquisition, the company’s daily production in Norway doubled to 70,000 boe/d (2015). DEA is also active within exploration, and has taken part in some of the most important recent discoveries on the NCS, such as Skarfjell and the Alta discovery in the Barents Sea in 2014.
The company has played a part in the Norwegian oil adventure for more than 40 years, and will continue to do so in the future.
